I decided on Sociology when I realized that my intrest in the minorities and subtleties of our society, as well as the less savoury parts, can actually be studied as a major. So I searched it up on the internet and fell for the subject.Sociology is such a diverse subject. Wikipedia defined it as "Sociology is the study of society, patterns of social relationships, social interaction, and culture that surrounds everyday life" which I can't agree more. However, most universities also offer politics, psychology and anthropology as part of the curriculum. This diversity is what attracted me! I want a bite out of every single cake.A Greek poet once said "many are the wondrous things, and nought more wondrous than man". Truly, what better to study than the thoughts of humankind, the most peculiar creature on earth, and the society that they organize themselves into? I believe that Sociology can offer me insight so I can understand this peculiar creature, and also myself. Why are people protesting for blacks as a minority but not for Asians? why are people opting for and against feminism? why are people identifying themselves by a single characteristic rather than their ideals? hopefully these questions will be answered when I get accepted by a university.We humans are a peculiar kind, in that we are able to believe in invisible ideals and live and die for them.
